Meet the Team

Bret J. Vaterlaus

Bret J. Vaterlaus

President

Bret started his career with Western Building Maintenance in 1974. He received his BAA degree in accounting and purchased the company in 1988. He has been involved in janitorial cleaning and fire/water damage restoration since 1981. From that point on, Bret has been involved in all large projects including all of the janitorial management growing the business from a Boise based company to one that has expanded into Washington, Oregon and Eastern Idaho. When not working, Bret is an avid mountain biker and also enjoys hiking throughout Idaho.

Jan Vaterlaus

Secretary/Treasurer

Jan joined the company in 1983 and was working on the specialty crew until he graduated from college with a BAA in accounting.  At this point,he was placed in management over all carpet cleaning, window cleaning and restoration projects.  He has provided training for each specialist and management of personnel, monitoring each project.  Jan has been trained and certified in all aspects of specialty cleaning including mold remediation andconstruction cleaning.  When not working at WBM, Jan has become quite good at making knives of all shapes and sizes. He also enjoys hunting, fishing and hiking.

Russ

Russ

Operations Director

Russ has worked in the industry for over 25 years. After earning a B.S. degree in public relations and marketing, he owned his own janitorial company and maid service franchise for 15 years. He joined WBM in 2015 bringing his commercial clients and maid franchise with him. He manages all operations and personnel at WBM and manages all the large buildings WBM services in Idaho. In his free time, Russ enjoys coaching youth soccer, is a member of two competitive softball teams and an avid downhill skier.

Alex

Alex

Controller

Alex started at WBM in 2019 and performs all accounting functions for the company. As the Controller, he has developed new operating procedures which have streamlined the accounting processes and allowed WBM to run more efficiently. Before joining WBM, Alex worked at Eide Baily as a Senior Auditor. He earned a B.S. degree in accounting and a Masters of Accountancy. Stepping away from the desk, Alex enjoys mountain biking, the outdoors, and taking his family on adventures.

Carlos

Carlos

Quality Assurance Manager

Carlos joined WBM in 2001. He has served in several positions including cleaner, supervisor and Evening Operations Manager. He was promoted to Quality Assurance Manager and is responsible for ensuring that WBM meets the cleaning expectations of its local clients. His days are filled with inspecting buildings and meeting with clients. He is also responsible for training new employees. In his time off, he likes to socialize with friends outdoors. His main hobby is collecting vinyl records.

Lorenzo

Lorenzo

Evening Operations Manager

Lorenzo joined WBM in 2012. He started as a cleaner and then supervisor before he was promoted to Evening Operations Manager. He manages all local janitorial crews at night helping them to complete their tasks through training, supervision and follow up to ensure that WBM meets the expectations of its clients. Away from the office, he enjoys spending time with his kids. He also enjoys marksmanship and spending time shooting at outdoor ranges.

Heather

Heather

Administrative Assistant

Heather started at WBM in 2019 after moving to the Treasure Valley after spending almost two decades in Sun Valley. She has extensive experience in office and receptionist work and also has some experience in retail. Heather handles all receptionist and administrative assistant duties at WBM. In her free time, her son keeps her on her toes, and she enjoys spending time outdoors, reading and watching basketball and football.

Dale

Vehicle + Equipment Repairs

Western Building Maintenance is large enough to employee its own mechanic to repair and maintain its fleet of vehicles and machinery. Dale is the company’s full-time mechanic.  He regularly services and repairs our fleet of cars, trucks, and vans as well as repairing any equipment that may have been broken in the field. Dale start with WBM in 2018 after having worked Wyndham Resorts in McCall, Idaho.

 

Steven

Steven

Specialty Crew Operations Manager

Steve followed Russ to WBM in 2015 after serving as the flooring care manager for several years. Steve now serves as the Specialty Crew Operations Manager in charge of all specialty crews, flooring crews and window cleaning crews. Steve has extensive management experience mostly through his time spent running tire shops for Sears and Les Schwab. In his free time, Steve is an avid hunter and enjoys spending most of his time in the outdoors with his daughters.
